Naga students condemn bias attitude over SHDDC demand

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 7 (MExN): The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has strongly condemned what it termed as the bias attitude of the O.Ibobi Singh led State Government in resolving the present situation in Senapati District regarding the demand of SHDDC. “Notwithstanding the prevailing strong demand of the Nagas for separate administration, any unwise conclusion will be unfortunate. Carving or creation of any District at the expense of the Nagas right over its own historical land will only trigger collateral confrontation among the co-existing tribal people”, stated a press note issued by A. Pfokrehrii Khrasi President, SDSA. “Not opposing to people’s aspiration for development and separate administration”, the SDSA advised for meaningful resolution “rather than violent and partial judgment”.
The Student’s fraternity expressed deep condolence to those deceased persons who were killed during the accident on 2nd August, 2011 at Kanglatongbi. Sharing the grief and pains of the bereaved family members of Ms. Yaireiphi Lungleng and two other persons, the demand for ex-gratia of the deceased persons are justifiable, it stated.
The SDSA also regretted on the lack of humane understanding among the volunteers or supporters of the SHDDC general strike imposed on the NH-39 since 2nd August, 2011. “Destroying and stoning of even some medical ambulance vehicle and non-exemption of funeral purposes are highly inhuman nature of democratic agitation”, it stated. The SDSA demanded the SHDDC to seriously look into the matter related to humanitarian issues during the bandh.
Further, the SDSA stated that it resented the incident where some bandh supporters on two-wheelers on 4th August, 2011 midnight came up to the main Senapati District H/Q near the District Hospital, attacked some private vehicles and stoned some trucks parked on the Highway. “Such act of disrupting the peaceful environment outside the bandh jurisdiction will not be accepted but counter-act effectively. Any provoking act of any group or organizations in Senapati District cannot jeopardize and disturb the prevailing situation”.
It went on to caution that conceding to demands without consulting and acceptance of the Nagas will be detrimental to peaceful environment of the State especially among different communities. And as such the state government will be solely responsible for any violent consequences arising from one-sided decision, it stated.
