Naga Tribe Hohos, FNR declare formation of new Naga political factions unacceptable

A joint meeting of the Naga Tribe Hohos and Forum for Naga Reconciliation was held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on October 18.

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 19 (MExN): The Naga Tribe Hohos (NTHs) and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on Saturday declared that the formation of new Naga political factions will not be accepted, reaffirming their collective stand against fragmentation and asserting that no forum or organisation can supersede the authority of tribe hohos.

The declaration was adopted during a joint meeting of the NTHs and FNR held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, following sixteen earlier meetings held between January 14 and September 27, 2025, involving Naga Political Groups (NPGs), the FNR, and the NTHs.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the groups said the gathering was held “in the spirit of sacred trust and communal responsibility,” reaffirming the shared commitment to the historical and political rights of the Naga people.

“It was voiced with clarity and conviction that no Naga Political Group (NPG) shall self-isolate from this essential, for to do so would be to hurt the sacred journey of the Naga people,” the statement said.

Emphasising that the creation of new political factions was contrary to the spirit of reconciliation, the NTHs and FNR declared that “fragmentation is a departure from the path of reconciliation” and shall not be accepted by the NTHs, NPGs, or the FNR.

The meeting also unanimously affirmed that each Naga Tribe Hoho remains the apex body of its respective tribe, and “no other forum or body may supersede the authority of the Tribe Hoho.” The resolution, the statement said, safeguards the integrity of tribal representation and honors “the ancestral mandate entrusted to each Hoho.”

Deliberating on the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), the meeting acknowledged its “fully legitimate aspirations for socio-economic-political flourishing,” while appealing to the ENPO to continue supporting the “Journey of Common Hope” and to “walk together” with the broader Naga family.

The gathering expressed gratitude to the NPGs for their “magnanimity” and urged them to meet frequently and intentionally to “converge on the Naga rights and nurture a common Machang.”

As a gesture of spiritual humility and communal renewal, the meeting resolved to hold an Advent Program on Sunday, November 30, 2025, with details to be finalised by the FNR in consultation with the NTHs and NPGs.

Describing the declaration as “a covenant, not mere minutes,” the statement concluded: “May it serve as a lamp for the path ahead, and a gentle summons to walk together.”
