Kohima, August 26 (MExN): Naga Wrestling team, led by Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) president Vivolie Kezo, left for Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday to participate in the 6th World Nomad Games, scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 7 at Cholpon-Ata.
The contingent comprises male wrestlers Huluyi D Vadeo and Kuvenu Puro, and female wrestlers Vikehenuo Zumvü and Haizuyile Zeliang, along with officials, coaches and referees.
Naga Wrestling has been officially included as a demonstration sports programme at the 6th World Nomad Games, where the Naga contingent will showcase the traditional style of Naga Wrestling and also participate in belt wrestling in their respective weight categories, the NWA said.
Naga Wrestling was included as a medal event at the 12th AITWPF National Championship held in Goa in January 2026, where wrestlers from 16 states participated.
With its inclusion as a demonstration event at the 6th World Nomad Games, the association said its goal of promoting Naga Wrestling at both the national and international levels had received a major boost.
The NWA further envisages having Naga Wrestling included as a medal event at the upcoming UWW World Wrestling Championship 2026 and at the next World Nomad Games in 2028.
The association acknowledged the support extended by the Nagaland government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio towards its achievements and expressed hope for continued support in its future endeavours.
It also acknowledged the financial contributions made by Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang, Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Advisor Kudecho Khamo and social activist Pelekho-u Akho Nagi towards the NWA team participating in the World Nomad Games 2026.
