Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): Nagaland emerged as one of the top-performing states in Goods and Services Tax (GST) growth during the financial year 2025–26, registering a 28.4% year-on-year increase in domestic collections, significantly higher than the national average.
The growth places Nagaland as his at the top among States/Union Territories in year-on-year % growth in domestic GST collections. Only OIDAR (Online Information Database Access and Retrieval services) showed higher growth than the State at 37%.
According to official data, the State’s total domestic GST collection stood at Rs 845 crore during FY26, up from the previous year.
The increase was reflected across both administrative arms. State GST formations collected Rs 509 crore, recording a 28.2% growth, while Central GST formations contributed Rs 335 crore, marking a 28.6% rise. In terms of tax composition, SGST accounted for Rs 388 crore, CGST Rs 312 crore and IGST Rs 145 crore.
Despite robust growth in collections within the State, the actual revenue, after inter-state settlement, rose more moderately, with post-settlement SGST increasing from Rs 1,078 crore in FY25 to Rs 1,184 crore in FY26, reflecting a 10% growth.
A press note from the CGST Dimapur Commissionerate stated that GST continues to be the largest source of Nagaland’s own tax revenue, contributing nearly 68% in the previous fiscal year, underscoring its importance to the State’s finances.
As of March 31, 2026, Nagaland had 11,363 registered GST taxpayers, including 6,721 under State jurisdiction and 4,642 under Central authorities, indicating a steadily expanding tax base.
Meanwhile, the All-India total GST collection for the financial year 2025-26 exceeded Rs 22.27 lakh crore, an 8.3% increase over the previous year, the release added.
