The 9th General Conference of the Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH) culminated on April 29 at Tiyi Hall, Wokha Town, under the theme “Women of Vision, Shaping the Future.” The programme was graced by Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, as the special guest for the morning session, while Achumbemo Kikon, MLA attended the valedictory session as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe commended the Lotha Eloe Hoho for its tireless efforts in uplifting women and strengthening the social fabric of the community. He appreciated the organisation’s role in nurturing leadership, unity and awareness among women, and encouraged the LEH to continue its dedicated work for the welfare of society.

Speaking on gender equality, Humtsoe noted that women today are excelling in every field and contributing meaningfully to society. Reflecting on earlier practices where men were often given preference, particularly in matters such as inheritance and opportunities, he remarked that times have changed. He emphasised that equality must now be practised in its true sense, with equal rights and opportunities for both men and women in all spheres of life.

Delivering greetings, Dr Anungla Aier, President of the Central Nagaland Women Association (CNWA), expressed gratitude to the Lotha Eloe Hoho for its continued support and solidarity over the years. She said the conference theme carries a strong and relevant message and urged that it should not remain confined to the event alone but be translated into action.

She called on women to raise their voices not only on women-centric issues but also on wider societal concerns such as corruption, inequality and developmental challenges. Stressing unity, she encouraged women to stand together, participate actively in decision-making spaces, and be courageous in addressing injustices for the betterment of society.

Theme speaker Wonchibeni V Patton, Principal Judge of the Family Court, Dimapur and Kohima, spoke on “Achieving Gender Equality in Nagaland.” Patton highlighted that while progress has been made, gaps in true equality still persist. She stressed that gender equality must go beyond policy and be reflected in everyday life through equal opportunities, participation, and respect within both family and society. At the same time, she encouraged women to be confident, aware, and proactive in shaping their roles.

In the valedictory programme, Achumbemo Kikon, MLA and Chairman of SDPDB Bhandari, congratulated the Lotha Eloe Hoho for the successful conduct of the conference. Kikon underscored the crucial role of women in shaping society, beginning from the family where they influence and guide future generations.

He described women as pillars of strength and wisdom, and encouraged them to be agents of positive change. Acknowledging the male-dominated nature of Naga society, he urged women not to wait to be pushed into leadership roles, but to actively engage in decision-making processes. He further called for unity among women and encouraged them to support one another.
Referring to gender equality as a key priority under the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030, Kikon noted that women have already proven their capabilities, particularly in education, and encouraged them to take on greater responsibilities as mentors and role models.

The conference concluded with the dedication of the new LEH team for the tenure 2026–2030, led by Thungbeni Ngullie as president. A prayer of blessing was offered by Chumbenthung Murry, Associate Pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church, bringing the programme to a close.
