Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Conservatory of Music, India, has concluded a cultural and educational collaboration with Chiang Mai University, Thailand, through the project ‘Echoes of the Hills: Exploring the Choral Performances of India and Thailand.’
The initiative marked a significant step in strengthening academic, artistic, and cultural ties between the two institutions while promoting greater understanding between India and Thailand through the universal language of music, a statement from the Conservatory said.
A major highlight of the collaboration was the joint performance by the Nagaland Conservatory of Music Choir and the Chiang Mai University Choir. The collaboration transcended geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries, creating a shared artistic experience founded on friendship, mutual respect, and artistic excellence, it added.
The programme was organised by the Indian Studies Centre, Chiang Mai University, with the active involvement of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, and the support of the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai and the Indian diaspora in Thailand.
The inaugural programme commenced with opening remarks by Associate Professor Dr Sugree Gasorngatsara, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, who emphasised the importance of international artistic collaboration in promoting intercultural understanding.
The keynote address was delivered by Pranav Ganesh, Consul of India in Chiang Mai, who highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy and the arts in strengthening the longstanding friendship between India and Thailand.
Beyond the collaborative performances at Chiang Mai University, the Nagaland Conservatory of Music Choir also presented a concert at Mc Gilvary College of Divinity, Payap University, on July 2, gave a choral performance at Thammanikom Church, San Sai District, on July 4, and concluded the tour with a special musical presentation at Refuge Fellowship, Chiang Mai, on July 5.
The performances attracted enthusiastic audiences comprising university faculty and students, members of the Indian diaspora, expatriate communities, local residents, and well-wishers from across Chiang Mai Province.
The warm reception at every venue reflected the enduring friendship between India and Thailand and reaffirmed the power of music to transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries while fostering mutual respect, understanding, and goodwill, the Conservatory said.
