Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): A Nagaland delegation led by Secretary, Economics and Statistics Department, Akunu S Meyase, participated in the National Deliberative Summit on “Harmonizing Administrative Data for Governance” held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from April 29 to 30.
The summit, organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, brought together policymakers, domain experts and state representatives to deliberate on linking administrative data systems for improved governance, evidence-based policymaking and enhanced service delivery.
Participation in the summit reflects Nagaland’s efforts to modernise its statistical systems in line with national initiatives. Key takeaways from the discussions are expected to strengthen the state’s data ecosystem, improve inter-departmental data sharing and support efficient governance and policy planning.
During the deliberations, experts stressed the need to harmonise administrative datasets across departments through common metadata standards, unique identifiers and standardised classifications.
States were encouraged to develop comprehensive data catalogues to maintain inventories of datasets, including legacy data, and ensure interoperability across government systems.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of automated data generation and sharing mechanisms, establishing state-level data exchange platforms and leveraging national data platforms for seamless integration and dissemination.
Emphasis was also laid on capacity-building initiatives and competency-based training for officials to improve data management practices, along with the need for quality assessment frameworks, advance data release calendars and stronger institutional mechanisms to sustain improvements in administrative data governance.
The delegation included Director Neidilhou Keditsu, Additional Director Charles Kikon and Economics and Statistics Officer Vetalu Chiero from the Economics and Statistics Department; Senior Programme Officer Akumla Aier from the Information Technology and Communication Department; and SDG Officer Abilo Y Humtsoe from the Transformation Department.
