Nagaland delegation explores cross-border trade model with Dawki port visit

Kohima, May 6 (MExN):  An official delegation from Nagaland’s Department of Industries & Commerce visited the Dawki Land Port, located in West Jantia Hills, Meghalaya on May 4 to study its trade operations and assess the feasibility of establishing a similar framework the State. 

According to a DIPR report, the visit was aimed at strengthening cross-border trade and exploring export infrastructure for the state.

The delegation was led by P Tokugha Sema, Director, along with Additional Director Y Lipongse Thongtsar, departmental officials, and members of the Business Association of Nagas.

During the visit, the delegation carried out on-site assessments of infrastructure, logistics, and trade facilitation systems at the land port to identify best practices that could be adapted in Nagaland. 

The team also held interactions with port officials, including the Regional Administrator and Port Administrator, to understand existing trade processes, regulatory mechanisms, and opportunities for expanding export and import activities.

Particular emphasis was also placed on exploring how a similar trade framework could help improve market access for local entrepreneurs, farmers, and businesses in Nagaland.

To further study integrated logistics systems, the delegation also visited the Inland Container Depot, Amingaon on May 5, where they examined containerised cargo handling, customs clearance procedures, and logistics management systems.

The visit forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen economic connectivity, promote regional trade integration, and develop trade-enabling infrastructure in Nagaland aimed at boosting exports and expanding participation in cross-border commerce.
