KOHIMA, JUNE 30 (MExN): The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Nagaland, on Monday called on its officers and staff to remain committed to generating quality, reliable and timely statistical data as it observed the 20th National Statistics Day.

The observance, held at the Directorate premises, was themed "Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data," according to a DIPR report.

Addressing the programme, Director of Economics & Statistics Neidilhou Keditsu said the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched a four-stage consultative process to develop a shared vision and roadmap for harmonising administrative datasets across States and making data machine-readable, interoperable and AI-ready.

As part of this initiative, he said the Directorate has begun preparing metadata for its publications in line with the National Metadata Structure 2.0 as a preliminary step towards strengthening administrative data systems.

Keditsu urged officers and staff to remain committed to producing quality, reliable and timely statistical data to support evidence-based planning and decision-making.

During the programme, the District Economics and Statistics Office (DESO), Wokha, was recognised as the Best Performing District Office for its performance during the Special Drive on Online Registration of Births and Deaths conducted from February 5 to 20, 2026.

National Statistics Day is observed annually on June 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of statistician Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis and his contributions to India's statistical system and economic planning.
