Nagaland emerges second runner-up at BVP NGSC

Agartala, October 5 (MExN): The Nagaland team’s presentation of a traditional Sumi folk song emerged as a special highlight of the North East Regional Competition of the Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) National Group Song Competition (NGSC) 2026, held Agartala, Tripura on October 4.

The event, organised at the Matangini Pritilata Auditorium, brought together young talents from across the Northeast in a celebration of music, culture, patriotism and national integration. Nagaland finished as the second runner-up, with Tripura securing the first position and Sikkim the first runner-up.

The Nagaland team comprised Limae Sema, Sulika Chishi, Tonushree Kundu, Sneha Bhattacharjee, Dristi Sonowal and Shayan Ghosh, with Anshumaan Roy Chowdhury accompanying the team on music. Sumi Ghosh took the lead in guiding and preparing the team.

 

The Sumi folk song presentation showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Sumi community and received warm appreciation from the gathering and the judges. The young participants presented their traditional culture with confidence, teamwork and pride, adding a distinctive cultural dimension to the competition.

The NGSC is one of the flagship activities of BVP's ‘Sanskar’ programme. Since its inception in Delhi in 1967, it has grown into a nationwide cultural initiative involving students from Classes VI to XII. Through group singing, the programme promotes discipline, teamwork, patriotism, character building, cultural pride and national unity.

The programme was graced by Kishore Barman, Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political), Government of Tripura, as the chief guest. Professor Debabrata Das, Vice-Chancellor, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Justice SC Das, former Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, was present as a distinguished guest.

Senior BVP office-bearers and representatives from across the Northeast also attended the programme and encouraged the participating students. Among them were Dr Muneendra Mishra, Regional General Secretary and Regional Convenor, Sanskar, BVP; Dr Shubhadee Roychoudhury, National Gatividhi Member, Sewa, BVP; Biswajyoti Dey, Regional Joint General Secretary; Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Regional Convenor, Sanskar; Ganesh Sharma, President, BVP Dimapur; Niranjan Saha; and Angshik Sharma Biswas, BKJ Convenor, Dimapur.
