Kohima, April 14 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi today expressed his appreciation to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for ordering “immediate airlift of critical equipments from Mumbai to Dimapur for fast track setting up of a BSL Laboratory in the state.”

Governor said this during the weekly review meeting COVID-19 status in Nagaland held at Raj Bhavan Kohima.

The airlifting of the equipments will enable the testing of suspected Covid-19 samples in the state instead of the present procedure sending them to laboratories in Assam and Manipur, a press release from Raj Bhavan informed.

The Indian Air Force plane carrying the equipments is scheduled to land at Dimapur Airport on April 15, it said.

The weekly review meeting at Raj Bhavan Kohima, among others, was attended by the Chief Secretary, Commissioner and Secretary Home, commissioner and secretary Health & Family Welfare and Director General of Police.

Nagaland reported the first COVID-19 case on April 12 when a patient from Dimapur tested positive for the disease at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Due to lack of Biosafety Levels (BSL) Laboratory, there is no testing facility in Nagaland and samples are sent to neighbouring states of Assam and Manipur.

Meanwhile, the Governor also  thanked Satish Reddy, Chairman DRDO for promptly providing much needed N95 masks and sanitizers to Nagaland, the Raj Bhavan tweeted on Tuesday.
