Kohima, June 15 (MExN): The Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with the Southern Angami Students' Union (SASU), organised a two-day hands-on drone workshop at the Village Council Hall in Kidima on June 12 and 13, bringing together 120 students from 16 government and private schools across the Southern Area of Kohima district.

Described as Nagaland's first drone workshop aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme aimed to promote skill-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and encourage experiential learning through emerging technologies.

The programme began with a welcome address by SASU President Kehozhol Noel Kulnu, while the workshop was inaugurated by Special Guest Zerütso Kesiezie, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Kezocha.

Addressing the participants, Kesiezie encouraged students to embrace the rapidly evolving world of technology and make the most of such hands-on learning opportunities to develop innovative thinking and practical skills.

Delivering the background note, Er Onongoto Soleho, Chief Mentor at the Innovation Hub and SEC under the Department of Science and Technology, described the workshop as a pioneering initiative sanctioned by the department's director to bridge the gap between aspiring students and the NEP 2020 focus on integrating emerging technologies into education.

He said the initiative seeks to reduce the regional digital divide, transform students from technology consumers into creators, and advance the experiential learning and vocational education goals envisioned under the NEP.

The technical sessions were conducted by Er Vikuovotuo Zhale, Junior Mentor, Er Mhasheto Yhobu, Technical Assistant, and Er Kekhruseto Soleho, Intern Engineer.

During the intensive two-day programme, students progressed from identifying drone components and assembling drone chassis to completing circuitry, conducting live test flights and participating in an inter-school drone flight competition.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by SASU Finance Secretary Noseto Ltu, marking what organisers described as a significant milestone in equipping Nagaland's student community with future-ready technological skills in line with contemporary educational objectives.
