Nagaland joins nationwide tree plantation campaign

Kohima | Sept ember 12 : The Zee News Ltd and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) today jointly launched a nationwide plantation drive of 50 lakh plants with the theme “My Earth My Duty,” in which the NYKs in Nagaland too joined the campaign by planting 412500 plants through 830 functional youth clubs across the state.
In the state capital, the youth clubs planted 4000 plants at Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima, 2000 plants at St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher secondary School, 1000 at Japfu Christian College, 4000 at St. Joseph College, 400 at Kigwema and another 1500 plants at Kidima.
John Makhabo, District Youth Coordinator NYK, Kohima said the purpose of this campaign is to sensitize and encourage the youth in particular and to take concrete action towards mitigating the effects of climate change.
The idea is to involve all the village based youth clubs affiliated with the district Nehru Yuva Kendras to plant a minimum of 50 lakh plants of different species at individuals residence/farm and at public places like schools, ponds, parks, religious places etc. The saplings were supplied by DFO and Silvicuturist departments Kohima.
