Nagaland Lok Adalat disposes 220 cases, settles Rs 3.66 cr

Kohima, May 9 (MExN): A total of 220 cases were disposed of with a combined settlement amount of Rs 3,66,21,476 (Three crore sixty-six lakh twenty-one thousand four hundred seventy-six) at the 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat held across 11 districts of Nagaland on Saturday under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).

Out of 402 cases taken up, the disposal rate stood at approximately 54%. Cases included pre-litigation matters such as bank recovery, loan recovery and telephone bills, as well as pending criminal compoundable offences, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases and other civil matters.

 

The highest settlement was recorded at Dimapur, where 102 cases were disposed of with a total amount of Rs 99,69,211, including 60 bank recovery cases (Rs 46,01,223), 36 BSNL cases (Rs 37,988) and six MACT cases (Rs 53,30,000). The Dimapur DDLSA proceedings were headed by Chairman N. Longshithung Ezung, NJS, and Secretary Atoka Achumi, NJS.

In Longleng, six of seven cases were settled for Rs 83,18,648, while Phek disposed of all 27 bank recovery cases taken up, fetching Rs 49,55,778. Peren settled 24 of 50 pre-litigation bank recovery cases for Rs 20,44,500, and Mon settled seven of 18 cases for Rs 20,57,540.

 

In Kohima, Principal District and Sessions Judge Mezivolu T Therieh, NJS, presided over the Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, where 23 of 156 cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 17,22,048. Kiphire settled 11 of 13 bank loan recovery cases at a mobile Lok Adalat held at SBI Pungro Town, amounting to Rs 17,31,200.

Tuensang settled three bank cases for Rs 14,78,629, Zunheboto disposed of seven of eight bank recovery cases for Rs 23,67,922, and Mokokchung settled eight of 10 bank cases for Rs 16,44,000. Wokha disposed of both pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up for Rs 3,32,000.
