Dimapur, March 14 (MExN): A total of 384 matters and cases were amicably settled at the 1st Quarter National Lok Adalat held across Nagaland on Saturday, achieving a disposal rate of 75.15%.
According to the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), a total of 511 cases were taken up for settlement, for which 11 benches were set up in the district headquarters of the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs). The total settlement amount involved was Rs 4.75 crore.
The cases taken up included those at the pre-litigation stage such as bank recovery cases, loan recovery and telephone bills, while pending stages comprised criminal compoundable offences, MACT and other civil cases.
In Longleng, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary Kumdilong Kessen, NJS, served as the Presiding Officer, with Retainer Lawyer K Bongyei Phom, Deputy LADC Monyei Phom and Panel Lawyer L. Yingloi Phom as conciliators. Three cases, including two pre-litigation and one pending, were all disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 6.97 lakh.
At Phek, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson Duvelu Vero presided, with Vethothi Vero, Chief LADC, Thukutalu Chizo and Thomeweu, Panel Lawyers, as conciliators. All 51 bank recovery loan cases taken up were disposed of, with settlements totalling Rs 93.07 lakh.
In Kiphire, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary Holika Sukhalu, NJS, presided. Deputy LADC Lizila Sangtam and Panel Lawyer Limkhushi Thongliu served as conciliators. Of the 31 pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up, 11 were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 3.26 lakh.

The Lok Adalat at Kohima was held under the supervision of the Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA). Chairperson Mezivolu T Therieh and Secretary Cheliam Khiamniungan served as Presiding Officers, with eight Panel Lawyers as conciliators and five Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) assisting. Thirteen banks participated in the proceedings, and all 20 cases taken up — including 17 pre-litigation cases, two pending MACT cases and one money suit — were successfully disposed of, with total settlements amounting to Rs 22.04 lakh.
In Mon, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary Wokono Yhoshii presided, with Panel Lawyers Topha and Henlem P, and Asst. LADC Chumei Mercy as conciliators. Of the 13 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and one litigation case taken up, 11 were disposed of, with a total settlement amount of Rs 58.59 lakh.
At Mokokchung, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary Julian Sithlou, NJS, presided over 15 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, all of which were disposed of with settlements totalling Rs 33.49 lakh.
In Wokha, District & Sessions Judge/Chairperson Seyielenuo Mezhu presided. Five pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed of, with a total settlement amount of Rs 8.57 lakh.
Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman Phuleto Yepth, NJS, presided at Zunheboto, with Easter H Yepthomi and Vilibo K Zhimo as conciliators. All 12 pre-litigation bank recovery cases taken up were disposed of, with settlements totalling Rs 14.81 lakh.
At Tuensang, Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman Somet Chumden Chang, NJS, presided, with Retainer Lawyer P Herola, Thondi Ongphang, Asst. LADC, and Panel Lawyer Ayangla as conciliators. Of the 14 bank recovery cases taken up, five were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 7.99 lakh.
In Peren, Khrievono Seletsu served as Presiding Officer with panel lawyers from the Peren DLSA. SBI, Jalukie Branch and Nagaland State Co-operative Bank, Jalukie participated in the proceedings. Out of 200 pre-litigation bank cases taken up, 110 were settled, with total settlements amounting to Rs 48.71 lakh.
Dimapur DLSA organised the National Lok Adalat sitting at the District Court complex, presided by the Principal District & Sessions Judge. Of the 146 cases taken up, 141 were disposed of, recording the highest settlement amount of Rs 1.65 crore.
