Spearheaded by Labour Department to commemorate the foundation day of National Safety Council, Nagaland observed the 53rd National Safety Day on March 4 and week-long campaign from March 4 to 10.

Kohima, March 4 (MExN): With an aim to renew the commitment of employees and the general public to work safely throughout the year, along with the rest of the country, Nagaland also observed the 53rd National Safety Day on March 4 and week-long campaign from March 4 to 10, spearheaded by the Labour Department to commemorate the foundation day of National Safety Council.

A press release received here stated that the 53rd National Safety Day was celebrated at various locations of factories in the state with poster campaign on the theme “Focus on safety leadership for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) excellence.”

The objective of the National Safety Day and campaign is to help industries and other establishment to innovate and promote safety. The goal of the National Safety Day campaign 2024 is to ensure that factories or establishment in the State take into account not only their profit margin but also the impact they have on the environment and society as a whole. The campaign also emphasised shifts from mere awareness to proactive leadership as the key driver for sustainable and responsible development in line with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9 (nine).

ESG are a pre-requisite for economic growth in today's world, hence in line with the theme “Focus on safety leadership for ESG excellence” the Department is committed to re-align its conventional objectives as per ESG standard wherein department would not only have to ensure the implementation of labour laws but also create an enabling environment for enhancing productivity and boost the economic development of the State.

With the celebration of the 53rd National Safety Day Labour Department envisage all the factories and establishment in the State to embark on a journey towards a more sustainable and resilient future and request all the units to embodies a commitment to proactive safety practices that extend beyond immediate concerns to address broader sustainability goals.

During the 53rd National Safety Day, some workers in the State who had shown exemplary behaviors toward Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) performance and commitment to reduce workplace injuries were awarded in recognition to their commitment toward OSH more so to encourage them for continual improvements toward OSH and also to encourage their co-workers.
