Nagaland observes Right To Information week

Wokha, October 11 (DIPR): Joining the rest of the country in observing Right To Information (RTI) week on the theme “RTI for a good governance” several districts in Nagaland has been conducting seminars on RTI.

Wokha
RTI week was observed at Wokha on October 11 at DC’s conference Hall. ADC (HQ), Anthony Ngullie while giving the chairman remark said, this Act is a tool to get the right information and to promote accountability and transparency and urged the people to use the act in a positive way. Involving students in such seminars is to let them know the basics of RTI and activities of the government, he added.
Project Director, DRDA, Helo Sep who also spoke on the occasion said level of RTI awareness in the district is very high but lamented that public are misusing the RTI facilities, stating that applicants after getting the information go to Court. RTI is not a weapon to victimize others but to empower the public and keep them aware of public importance, he said and further urged them to use the Act in the right perspective.
Later College Level Quiz competition was also held, where Ekonthung Kikon of Mt. Tiyi College, Yibenthung Ezung Bailey Baptist College and Nchumbemo N. Kithan of Mt. Tiyi College were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. The winners were awarded cash prize and certificates.

Mokokchung
A seminar on RTI was held at Ongpangkong Slang, Mokokchung on October 11.
Resource person, Engineer Temsuwathy District Informatics Office presented an overview on RTI Act. Stressing on some of the salient features of the Act, he mentioned that, the Government of India enacted this Act to empower the citizen the right to seek information from public authorities to ensure accountability and transparency for good governance. He also emphasized on the role of PIOs and APIOs.
The seminar was attended by a number of students from different schools and colleges, the programme was chaired by SDO(C) (Sardar) Mokokchung, Tsuktimar Jamir while vote of thanks was proposed by Additional Deputy Commissioner & Public information Officer, Mokokchung, Y. Denngan Avennoho Phom. Later a documentary film on RTI was screened.

Dimapur
To create awareness amongst the Student community on Right To Information (RTI), the Dimapur District Administration conducted a Quiz Competition for college students in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner on October 11.
ADC (II), Tarep Imchen in his welcome speech said that RTI is a powerful weapon, which should be utilized in proper context. He said this Act has liberated the citizens of the country from strong arm of the bureaucracy and the politicians. While welcoming the students who had participated in the quiz competition, he said, “knowledge is power”, and urged the students to continue and take part in such activities, which will be helpful in moulding their career.  
Commemorating the RTI week 2011, the Quiz Competition was participated by Dimapur Govt. College, Unity College, Pranabananda Women’s College, Immanuel College and SM College. Immanuel College emerged as the Champion followed by Unity College and Dimapur Govt. College. The winners walked away with a cash award of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 along with Certificates,
The Quiz Competition was hosted by Meripeni Ngully, Lecturer (History) Dimapur Govt. College and the Vote of thanks was delivered by T, Lankonsen Tsanglao EAC (R).
