Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome today inaugurated the new school building of the newly upgraded Government High School, Phezoucha at New Secretariat Area, Kohima.

The new school building was funded under Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (2023-24).

Addressing the gathering, Dr Yhome said that the school education department has been aggressively redesigning the management as well running of the school affairs.

“We are doing a lot of publicity to bring children to our school,” he said adding that government school has qualified teachers. We are redesigning our schools. We are looking at three pillars, he said.

“Firstly, we will improve the infrastructure to improve the school system,” he said.

Secondly, the department will address the governance and administrative reform to improve resource management of the teachers.

The third pillar will be scaling of Nagaland school standards, he said.

In this regard, the state government has constituted the “Nagaland School Standards Authority,” which will supervise the standards of both private and government schools. Dr Yhome said that the department is aggressively collaborating with the third party intervention through CSR network.

“We hope to improve our curriculum, micro improvement as well as improve the learning outcome of our schools,” he said.

Dr. Yhome was optimistic that the standardization process would attract students, which will then rebrand the school system.

Meanwhile, the Advisor complimented that school authority and the school management committee for improving the ecosystem of the school.

In the past two years, 34 students had migrated from the private schools to this school, he said adding that the school registered 61 new comers after the upgradation of the school.

“With the growth, we hope to have higher secondary also very soon,” Dr. Yhome said.

‘Community participation our greatest strength’

Ketouneinuo Mepfhuo, Head Teacher, GHS Phezoucha said that the school has 204 enrolment and 20 teaching faculty members at present.

She said that 21 students have been enrolled into this school this year from private schools.

Mepfhuo informed that the first batch of Class X will start by next year.

She said that community participation has been “our greatest strength” for the growth of the school.

She thanked the state government for its continuous support for the growth of GHS Phezoucha.

“This new school building and upgradation” stands as symbol of unity, cooperation and shared responsibility, she said.

She maintained that the upgradation of the school has significantly boosted the school enrolment.

Earlier, dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Emilo Patton, District Education Officer (DEO) Kohima.

The programme was led by Beituo Mepfhuo and Neisalhoukhono while vote of thanks was proposed by Kelhoungunyu Vizo, chairman, Phezoucha.
