LUDHIANA, DECEMBER 6 (MExN): The 73rd Senior National Basketball Championship witnessed an action-packed fourth day in Ludhiana, Punjab, where the cagers from Nagaland concluded their journey with spirited performances despite facing twin defeats.
In the morning session, the Nagaland women’s team encountered a tough challenge against the Gujarat squad, succumbing to a 33-78 defeat. Despite the loss, Lelevino contributed 11 points, complemented by Reena Rai with 8 points and Lituna adding 5 points. Gujarat’s standout performers included Naomi with 20 points and Aradhana with 14 points, a press release issued by NBA Honorary Secretary Sentinungsang Longkumer informed.
During the afternoon clash, the Nagaland men’s team battled against Chhattisgarh, ultimately losing 89-68. Although the Chhattisgarh team dominated most of the game, Nukshizulu led Nagaland’s scoring with 14 points, supported by Neisezo’s 13 points, while Thejagulie Mekro and Salew Kadete both contributed 9 points each.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Chumbenthung Humtsoe, the men’s coach, expressed satisfaction with the overall experience gained by the players, especially those competing outside the North-East region for the first time. Humtsoe acknowledged the team’s challenge in rebounding due to the absence of taller players, primarily due to exams, yet highlighted their prowess in transitioning with speed and displaying remarkable shooting abilities from beyond the arc.
“Despite close matches against top-level players, we fought hard and strong. Our young team will return home enriched with valuable experience,” said Humtsoe.
