Lumami, September 26 (MExN): Nagaland University (NU) observed National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (NVBDD) 2026 by organising a voluntary blood donation camp at the University Health Centre, Nagaland University, Lumami on September 25.
National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is observed annually on October 1.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session chaired by Peter Ki, PRO, NU. Dr Abemo, Registrar, NU, graced the occasion as the chief guest and addressed the gathering on the importance of voluntary blood donation and its vital role in saving lives and supporting the healthcare system. He appreciated the donors for their generosity and contribution, stating that their selfless act would be remembered.

Speaking briefly on the occasion, Dr Apong, Pathologist, who led the team from Mokokchung Civil Hospital, highlighted the significance of every unit of blood collected through voluntary donation. He noted that even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference, as blood can be separated into different components, each of which serves vital functions in patient care.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Sungkum Jamir, Senior Medical Officer, NU.

The inaugural programme was followed by the voluntary blood donation camp, in which members of the university community, NSS volunteers, and donors from neighbouring villages participated. Around 15 donors donated blood during the camp.
