Nagaland’s Governor Nand Kishore Yadav have been inducted as the Chief Patron of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides (NSBSG) at the impressive induction ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Kohima on May 2.
“I accept this role with humility and a strong sense of responsibility,” Yadav said after his induction and assured full support in strengthening and expanding Scouts & Guides movement in Nagaland.
He maintained that being associated with a movement that has, for decades, shaped the character, discipline, and leadership qualities of young people “is indeed a privilege.”
This position is not merely ceremonial. It is a commitment to support and nurture the growth of our youth, who are the future of our State and our nation, he said.
He said that the Scouts and Guides is a voluntary, non-political, and educational movement for young people. It stands apart in its inclusiveness, being open to all without distinction of origin, race, or creed.
Rooted in the timeless vision of Lord Baden Powell, who founded the scouting movement in 1907, it continues to inspire generations across the world.
Yadav said that the values of discipline, self-reliance, service, and leadership that it promotes are as relevant today as they were over a century ago.
Expressing happiness that the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides, established in 1967, has grown steadily over the years, Yadav said “From those humble beginnings, the movement has spread across various districts, reaching young people in different corners of Nagaland and positively influencing their lives.”
‘Uphold scout law in everyday lives’
“In today’s rapidly changing world, where young minds are exposed to numerous challenges and distractions, the role of organizations like the Scouts and Guides becomes even more vital. It teaches us to work together, to lead with integrity, and to care for the environment—values that are essential for building a strong and harmonious society,” Yadav said.
Asking the young Scouts and Guides, he said “Uphold the Scout Promise and Law not only during your activities, but in your everyday lives. Let your actions reflect honesty, kindness, and courage.”
The Governor encouraged all educational institutions and stakeholders to actively participate and contribute to its growth.
“Together, we must ensure that more young people are given the opportunity to benefit from the values and experiences that scouting and guiding offer,” he said.
Congratulating the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides for their continued dedication and service, he called for collective efforts to ensure the movement reach greater heights in the years to come.
“Let us all work together in the spirit of unity, service, and nation-building,” Yadav said.
Call for building inclusive, responsible, forward-looking society
Welcoming Yadav to Bharat Scouts & Guides family, Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports advisor S. Keoshu Yimkhiung said “Your induction as Chief Patron today is deeply meaningful. Your leadership, experience, and commitment to public service will undoubtedly guide and inspire this organization to reach greater heights.”
He said that Governor’s role as Chief Patron will serve as a moral compass and a source of encouragement for thousands of young Scouts and Guides across the state.”
He continued that May 2 marks a significant milestone in the journey of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides by inducting Governor as Chief Patron, which not only strengthens the institution but also inspires every Scout and Guide to uphold the highest ideals of service, discipline, and leadership.
“As we formally welcome Governor into the Bharat Scouts and Guides family, let us reaffirm our collective dedication to building a better society, that is inclusive, responsible, and forward-looking.” Keoshu said.
‘Scouting and guiding continue to nurture unity, resilience’
Keoshu said that the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement has always stood as a beacon of character-building and nation-building.
Rooted in the timeless principles of duty to God, duty to country, and duty to others, this movement has shaped generations of young people into responsible citizens, he said
Here in Nagaland, with its vibrant culture and strong community spirit, Scouting and Guiding continue to nurture unity, resilience, and a spirit of service among our youth, Keoshu said.
Scouting is a global movement spread across 216 countries, with over 56 million members worldwide.
The movement operates in accordance with the purpose, principles, and methods conceived by its founder, Robert Baden-Powell, in 1907.
Since its inception, Scouting has focused on the holistic development of young individuals, building character, fostering leadership, and encouraging a lifelong commitment to service.
Through its unique method of learning by doing, it empowers young people to become responsible citizens and active contributors to society, Keoshu said.
