Thungchibemo N Ezung

Kohima, May 31 (MExN): Twenty-four-year-old Thungchibemo N Ezung from Nagaland has been selected to participate in the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2026, organised by the World Economic Forum, to be held in Dalian, China, from June 23 to 25.

Thungchibemo, a founder and youth leader, will attend the event as part of the Global Shapers Community youth delegation. The delegation comprises 60 young representatives selected from across the world to bring youth perspectives into discussions on innovation, entrepreneurship, healthcare, sustainability and economic transformation. He is one of only seven delegates representing South Asia.

Widely known as the “Summer Davos”, the Annual Meeting of the New Champions is one of the World Economic Forum’s flagship gatherings focused on entrepreneurship, frontier technologies, innovation and next-generation economic growth.

Since its inception in 2007, the forum has brought together leaders from governments, businesses, academia and civil society to discuss solutions to global economic and technological challenges.

The 2026 edition, themed “Innovating at Scale”, is expected to bring together more than 1,500 global leaders and innovators amid major geo-economic shifts, rapid technological advances, climate challenges and changing labour markets.

Discussions during the meeting will focus on economic growth, China’s role in global industries, the impact of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, youth employment, workforce transformation, and aligning climate and energy systems with sustainable competitiveness.

Thungchibemo is the founder and director of Wealth Track Health Services Private Limited, a pre-seed-funded startup working to advance health equity through accessible and culturally sensitive healthcare solutions in Northeast India.

The startup recently won the Open Challenge organised by the Software Technology Parks of India, an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

In addition to his work in health technology, he has led Pipo Jewellery and the Nagaland Handmade Jewellery Exhibition since 2016, promoting indigenous craftsmanship, cultural storytelling and sustainable livelihoods through artisan-led initiatives. His work was also featured in a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India Northeast coffee table book, “Stories of Change”, which highlighted changemakers driving social impact across the region.

Thungchibemo currently serves as Curator of the Global Shapers Community Kohima Hub, where he contributes to initiatives centred on youth leadership, education, sustainability and grassroots community engagement in Nagaland.

“It is an incredible honour to represent Nagaland, Northeast India and South Asia at a global platform like the Annual Meeting of the New Champions. I believe communities at the grassroots hold valuable perspectives on resilience, innovation, culture and sustainable development, and I hope to contribute those voices to global conversations shaping the future,” he said.

His participation reflects the growing presence of youth leaders from Northeast India in international dialogue platforms and underscores the importance of locally rooted innovation in addressing global challenges.
