Affirms commitment to strive in promoting “good governance, inclusive development and welfare of the people”
Kohima, March 13 (MExN): Asserting that the aspirations of the people for lasting peace, stability and development remain paramount, the veteran politician and former Bihar Minister Nand Kishore Yadav assumed the office of the Governor of Nagaland on March 13.
In his first address to the people of the State, the 23rd Governor of Nagaland said, “Peace and harmony provide the foundation for sustainable progress, and with collective effort and mutual understanding, Nagaland will continue to move forward on the path of prosperity.”
Affirming his commitment to upholding the Constitution of India and working in close cooperation with the State Government and all sections of society, the Governor said he would strive “to promote good governance, inclusive development and the welfare of the people.”
Yadav expressed his gratitude to President DroupadiMurmu and Prime Minister NarendraModi for the trust and confidence reposed in him by entrusting him with this important constitutional responsibility.
Describing Nagaland as a state that occupies a special place in the rich and diverse fabric of India, he highlighted its vibrant cultural heritage, strong community values, and the warmth and resilience of its people. “The traditions and spirit of the Naga people are a source of pride not only for the State but for the entire nation,” he said.
The Governor noted that India is undergoing a period of remarkable transformation under the leadership of PM Modi, with notable progress in economic development, modern infrastructure, science and technology, social empowerment, and sporting excellence. He said these achievements have strengthened India’s standing on the global stage.
Referring to the renewed focus on the North Eastern region, Yadav said renewed focus and investment in recent years in connectivity, infrastructure and economic development are expanding opportunities and integrating the region more closely with the national growth story, while preserving its unique identity and traditions.
He observed that Nagaland too has been steadily progressing across various sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, tourism, digital connectivity and entrepreneurship. “These developments are creating new possibilities for economic growth and improving the quality of life for the people.”
The Governor particularly encouraged the youth of Nagaland, who he said are excelling in diverse fields including education, sports, arts, entrepreneurship and public service. “Their achievements reflect the creativity, determination and potential of the younger generation,” he stated.
Yadav emphasised that creating meaningful opportunities for educated youth remains an important priority. “It is encouraging to see many young people exploring avenues in entrepreneurship, agriculture-based enterprises, tourism and the digital economy. With the right skills, innovation and institutional support, these sectors can generate employment and encourage our youth to become creators of opportunities,” he said.
He expressed confidence that with collective effort and mutual understanding, Nagaland will continue to move forward on the path of prosperity. “Peace and harmony provide the foundation for sustainable progress,” the Governor added.
Concluding his address, Yadav said he looked forward to working together with the people of Nagaland to strengthen peace, encourage development and preserve the unique cultural heritage of the State. “Let us move forward together with hope and determination for a brighter future for Nagaland and for our great nation, India,” he said, concluding with “Kuknalim, Jai Hind.”
Earlier, the ceremony was held at the Dr ImkonglibaAo Hall, LokBhavan, Kohima. Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Ashutosh Kumar, administered the oath of office to the new Governor and the ceremony was conducted by the state Chief Secretary SentiyangerImchen.
Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, along with his cabinet colleagues, senior officials, and other dignitaries, attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Following the oath-taking, Governor Yadav also held a meeting with the Chief Minister and the state Cabinet members at LokBhavan.
Extending his wishes, the CM congratulated the new Governor and wished him a “successful tenure in service of the people of the State.”
