Reaffirms commitment to expanding access to affordable healthcare and rehabilitation services

Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): Members of the Nagaland Parents Association for the Disabled (NAPAD) participated in the Hitarth Sahayak National Convention 2026 held at Nagda, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on June 14, where stakeholders discussed strengthening the implementation of the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Organised by PARIVAAR-NCPO (National Confederation of Parents Organisations) in collaboration with VOSAP (Voice of Specially Abled Persons), a US-based organisation, the convention brought together disability rights advocates, parent organisations, government officials and development stakeholders from across the country.

The event was attended by Nagaland State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Tongpang L. Jamir, as Guest of Honour, along with V.J. Rajput, Dr Ajay Khemariya and Prof Himanshu Jha. Speakers highlighted the need to expand access to healthcare and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities through the Niramaya Scheme.

Discussions focused on the implementation of the HITARTH (Healthcare Initiative to Avail Rehabilitative Therapies and Health Coverage) Scheme, an initiative of VOSAP and PARIVAAR-NCPO aimed at increasing enrolment and utilisation of the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme among persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities and Multiple Disabilities.

The Niramaya Scheme provides health insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh and includes benefits such as OPD treatment, medicines, diagnostic tests, hospitalisation, disability-related therapies, corrective surgeries and transportation assistance.

According to a press release, NAPAD serves as the nodal agency for implementing the HITARTH Scheme in Nagaland and is working in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to facilitate awareness, enrolment and access to the scheme across the state.

At the convention, NAPAD representatives reiterated their commitment to ensuring that every eligible person with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Nagaland benefits from the scheme and gains access to affordable healthcare and rehabilitation services.

The convention also provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences, share best practices and strengthen collaborative efforts towards inclusive healthcare for persons with disabilities.
