A two day long National Conference on Cybercrime, Digital Forensics & Intelligence (NCCDFI) 2024, supported by United Service Institution of India got underway here today at Capital Convention Centre.
Gracing that inaugural session under the theme “Cyber secure Bharat: Fortifying India’s digital future,” Nagaland’s Information Technology & Communication, economics & statistics and evaluation advisor Sethrongkyu Sangtam thanked the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Kohima, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), GoI, Nagaland Police and Information Technology & Communication, Nagaland for organizing the conference in Kohima.
This conference, brings an impressive groups of people including scholars, industry experts, policy makers, government officials, intelligence personnel, public prosecutors and members of the judiciary,” he said.
He asserted that their collective knowledge and experiences are vital in figuring out how to fight cyber crime and improve national security system.
“We need to collaborate, share knowledge and come up with innovative solutions to protect our digital world,” he said.
The discussion over the next two days will help build stronger defences against cyber threats, he added.
The two day-long conference, to continue till July 26, aims to address pressing issues in cyber security and digital forensics.
‘Need to improve cyber security measures’
In virtual address, S. Krishnan, secretary MeitY, GoI, acknowledged the various projects undertaken by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology especially under NIELIT in the North Eastern Region to bridge the digital divide across the country and improve the digital services in the region.
He said that one area where the country faces significant risk is cyber security and emphasised on the need to improve cyber security measures, especially with the increase in the usage of Information Technology in governance.
He further said that the endeavour should be a continuous process with constant upgrades and keeping in tune with the latest developments across the digital world.
‘Need to invest in skilling of the workforce’
Mandar Kulkarni, National Security Officer, India & South Asia, Microsoft said that there is a difficult cyber landscape as a result of two decades of rapid digitalization, proliferation of the internet and rapid access to technology to both users and threat actors and has made the jobs of cyber defence experts very difficult.
He highlighted the various challenges faced in ensuring and providing cyber security to its users.
He further emphasised on the need to invest in skilling of the workforce, creating awareness of cyber threats also the need to adopt new technologies to counter the cyber threat actors who are evolving day by day.
DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma IPS, Sr. Director & CG HRD, MeitY, GOI, A K Pipal, Commissioner & Secretary, IT&C, Muhammed Ali Shihab, IAS and DG, NIELIT- MeitY, GOI Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi also delivered short speech.
Video on initiative for Cyber Security Aware Society Mobile App was also screened at the inaugural session.
A book on “The New Age of Privacy” by Kamaljeet Kaur Muni and Paathik Muni was released on the occasion.
Earlier, L. Lanuwabang, Director, NIELIT, Kohima delivered welcome address while vote of thanks was pronounced by Daniel Meren Addl. Director NIELIT.
The inaugural session was followed by technical sessions on "Emerging technologies in cyber security and forensics, "Advanced Forensic techniques and tools" and "Combating emerging cyber threat."
Empowering police, officials of NE states through IT and Cyber Security Training
Earlier, S. Krishnan, virtually launched the project “Empowering Police Personnel and Government Officials of NE States through IT and Cyber Security Training.”
The project aims to enhance the capabilities of police and government personnel to effectively address the evolving landscape of cyber threats, by providing advanced training and resources, enabling to create a highly skilled workforce capable of preventing, detecting, and responding to cyber incidents.
This initiative will safeguard government assets and critical infrastructure, ensuring the continuity of essential services and protecting national security.
The project is funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, to be implemented by NIELIT Kohima in association with other NE NIELIT centres.
