‘NDPP shall stand amended as NPF’: SEC on merger recognition

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The State Election Commission (SEC), Nagaland has officially amended the party affiliations of all elected NDPP candidates in the 2024 Municipal and Town Councils elections, recognising them as members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) following the merger of the two parties.

In an order issued on the basis of a communication from the Election Commission of India (ECI) dated May 4, 2026, the SEC acknowledged the ECI’s recognition of the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the NPF as per a meeting decision taken on October 18, 2025. Consequently, the NDPP has ceased to exist as a separate political entity.

The order, signed by SEC T John Longkumer, stated that in the General Election to Municipal and Town Councils held in 2024, the names of NDPP candidates declared winners were duly notified in the Nagaland Gazette (Extraordinary) on July 1, 2024.

“Now therefore, in light of the official recognition of the merger… the party name of NDPP against each corresponding winner, wherever it appeared in the aforesaid Gazette, shall hereby stand amended as NPF for all practical purposes in the concerned municipalities,” the SEC order read.

The amendment has been made effective from the date of publication in the Nagaland Gazette, under powers conferred under Section 31(1) read with Section 44 of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, it stated.
