Chümoukedima, September 24 (MEXN): The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, observed NSS Day on September 24 through a series of community-oriented initiatives aimed at promoting social responsibility, volunteerism and meaningful engagement with communities.
As part of the observance, a cleanliness drive was conducted from 7th Mile Gate to the DC Office, led by Daisinlung Sebastian Kamsuan, Assistant Professor, and Vizosu Kikhi, Assistant Professor and NSS PO, NEISSR. The drive witnessed the participation of NSS volunteers and students, who contributed towards maintaining cleanliness and promoting civic responsibility in the locality, stated a press release.
In response to the recent fire incident at Kuda B Khel, Dimapur, the BSW V semester students also undertook a Rapid Post-Fire Household Needs and Impact Assessment. The assessment sought to document the immediate needs, losses and challenges faced by affected households and to understand priority areas requiring support and follow-up intervention. The field exercise provided trainees with practical exposure to household-level assessment, community interaction, data collection and needs identification.
The activities also witnessed the participation of members of the Green Club, Red Ribbon Club (RRC), NCC cadets and general students of NEISSR, reflecting the Institute's collective commitment to community service and social responsibility.
In addition to these initiatives, a series of community outreach activities were undertaken in various schools, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and villages. These engagements focused on awareness, interaction with community members and identifying opportunities for sustained institutional outreach and service.
