NESCH responds to appeal over rape case

Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The North East Support Centre & Helpline clarifies on a report in The Sangai Express about a physically challenged minor girl from Wangkhei who was allegedly seduced, intoxicated and raped on August 21 at Kongba Bazar by a man age around 20 years from Andhro Kunjao.
The NESCH said in a press release today that the organization withheld the names and details of the victim and the alleged rapist from making “public disclosure” on the ground of protecting their privacy. The organization ‘respects every human being and refrain from public disclosure of privacy on humanitarian ground,’ the note from the NESCH stated.
The citizens of Andro concerned about the identity of offender are asked to contact Irilbung Police station, Imphal East, where the details of offender and victim are recorded under FIR 68/18/2011.
The NESCH has appealed to Chief Minister of Manipur, Director General of Police, Manipur State Commission for Women and National Commission for Minorities to take up the matter.
“The nature of the crimes includes seducing, intoxicating and raping a physically challenged underage girl. FIR booked under 376 section of IPC is incomplete. Rainbow Fast Food Resto bar at Kongba Bazar where the crime took place should also be booked under the law of the land,” the organization said.
The girl from Wangkhei, name withheld, 15 years old, was physically challenged, the NESCH said.
