NFHRCC reiterates demands to expedite two-lane project

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has unanimously adopted a set of resolutions urging the state government to expedite the ongoing two-lane Foothills road construction project. The committee also reiterated its full support for upgrading the stretch to National Highway status under the Trans Nagaland Highway initiative.

THE Media Cell of NFHRCC in a press release stated that in a marathon meeting held on July 25, the committee resolved to press the government to relentlessly pursue the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, noting that the proposal has been pending since 2018.

With the working season fast approaching, the NFHRCC appealed to the state government to issue work orders without further delay for the second phase of construction in the remaining divisions, based on the administrative approval secured under the SASCI loan scheme for 2024-25. The committee stressed that the process must be carried out without bias or prejudice.

It also urged the concerned department to avoid piecemeal inaugurations of road stretches, except for essential bridges, until the entire corridor is fully completed.

Reaffirming its stand since 2013, the NFHRCC made it clear that no warring factions or individuals would be allowed to levy taxes on the Foothills road construction stretch under any pretext. It appealed to village council authorities to monitor the project’s progress in close coordination with the department.

Further, NFHRCC called upon the department to expedite additional funding for bridge contractors in the Baghty and Peren divisions, who were compelled to undertake work beyond the original Detailed Project Report (DPR), which appears to have been deficient.
