NFR awards nine railwaymen for devotion to duty

Guwahati, October 1 (MExN):  Nine railway staff from various divisions of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) showing “exceptional devotion and alertness while performing their duties” in August were awarded during a function held at its Maligaon HQ on September 30. 


A press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer, Subhanan Chanda informed that the employees, in recognition of their meritorious service, each of them were awarded with a cash award of Rs. 3, 000 along with a certificate issued by the General Manager, NFR.  

 
The awardees include Kulesh Nigam, Gateman/Aluabari under Katihar division who detected welding fracture of track on August 15 and immediately protected the track by placing banner flag and informed all concerned. 


Shahgir Alam, driver under Alipuduar division was also noted for noticing a sudden crossing of the railway track at km 23/5-6 between Gulma – Sivok by a big elephant on August 17. He immediately applied emergency brake and controlled the train saving the elephant and averting a mishap, the release said. 


Another awardee on August 20,  Md. Gulam Mustafa, Tech/II under Katihar division detected broken Coil Spring in a coach, leading to its detachment and preventing a possible accident. 


Gokul Kr.Singh, Track Maintainer under Katihar division was also awarded for rescuing one female child aged about 8 months, lying between tracks and and handing over to the Railway Protection Force personnel. 


A Tech/III under Katihar division, Bhisham  Nath Prasad, on August 25, also detected “Broken Anchor Link” in a coach and was rewarded  to his alertness.


On August 28,  Dipankar Dey, Track Maintainer under Lumding division also detected sleeper seats in totally hanging position and informed all concerned. Due to his alertness, a probable mishap was averted.


Akhil Barman, Station master of Koithalkuchi station on August 29 also noticed hanging parts in the rear coach of a train and immediately informed all concerned and arranged to stop the train. He was also awarded. 


Meanwhile, two welders, Atul Uzir of  Simaluguri Jn and Bhagabanta Rabha of Chaygaon were also rewarded for “sincere and dedicated” works by executing more than 90 welds from April 1-August 31, 2019.
