Maligaon, March 27 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully commissioned Bridge No. 603, a newly constructed 2x30.5 Open Web Girders span structure between Kathal Pukhuri and Silonibari Railway Stations in the BG-3 section of Rangiya Division (RNY).
The passage of the first train over the bridge marks a significant achievement in strengthening railway infrastructure and enhancing safety in the region, informed a press release from the NFR CPRO.
The previous bridge had deteriorated over time, necessitating speed restrictions (SR) that impacted both operational efficiency and train punctuality, it said. Accordingly, the old structure was replaced with a modern, high-capacity bridge with a larger span, improved water flow, and reduced track damage in the surrounding area, it added.
The new bridge, the release maintained, will eliminate speed restrictions, improving train operations and thereby enhancing the efficiency of both passenger and freight transportation.
It is part of the NFR’s larger modernisation initiative aimed at replacing aging and distressed bridges with stronger, more resilient structures, it said. With its commissioning, NFR reaffirms its commitment to providing safer, faster, and more efficient connectivity for both passenger and freight services, it added.
