NPP overhauls Nagaland unit

Appoints Interim Committee, new Legislature Party Leader

Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): In a significant organisational reshuffle, National People’s Party (NPP) President Conrad K Sangma has constituted an Interim State Committee for Nagaland and appointed a new Leader of the Legislature Party, effective immediately.

In order to ensure the smooth functioning of the affairs of the NPP Nagaland state unit, and pending the appointment of a new State President through the prescribed organisational process, the NPP chief on Wednesday announced the constitution of an Interim State Committee with immediate effect.

Accordingly, a five-member Interim State Committee has been set up comprising Chuba Jamir, James Vizo, Audrey Jamir, Eje Wangnyu Konyak, and Er H Khumtimong Sangtam (NPYF). The committee will assist the National Working President and the National Committee, carrying out responsibilities assigned by the party's central leadership.

The committee will assist the National Working President and the National Committee, and “discharge such responsibilities as may be assigned by the National Working President or the National Headquarters from time to time.”

This arrangement shall remain in force, during the process of selecting and appointment of new State President by the National President. Meanwhile, the interim committee will perform its duties in consultation with the National Working President in consultation with the National President, the order stated. 

In a separate order, the party has appointed A Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA, as the new Leader of the NPP Legislature Party in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He replaces Nuklutoshi, who has been relieved of the responsibility with immediate effect.

Sangma, who exercised his powers as National President under the party’s constitution, stated that the change was made in the interest of strengthening the party’s legislative wing.

All party office-bearers and members have been directed to extend full cooperation to the new appointees.
