Maligaon, May 29 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully completed significant track realignment and speed restriction removal work in the Simaluguri–Moranhat section under the Tinsukia Division.
As a result, trains in the section will now be able to run at normal speed, an official release informed.
The project involved upgrading an existing 3-degree curve, which was 290 metres in length and required trains to reduce speed between Km 22/8 and Km 23/1, it stated. This has now been replaced with a newly designed 2-degree curve extending 420 metres, enabling trains to maintain a speed of 110 kmph in accordance with sectional speed norms.
According to the NFR, this move boosts both line capacity and running efficiency.
The work required a major slew of 5772 mm, demanding precise alignment and high technical proficiency. Machine packing was carried out to ensure proper stabilisation, alignment accuracy, and safety of the track structure post-alignment, it noted.
The NFR further informed that it has been proactively enhancing track conditions and has eliminated 15 Permanent Speed Restrictions (PSRs) across its network so far.
These initiatives include comprehensive track renewal and regular maintenance activities aimed at improving punctuality and enhancing passenger services, it added.
