Maligaon, October 9 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava conducted a safety inspection of the Alipurduar Division on October 7, reviewing operational safety, maintenance infrastructure and staff training facilities.
Divisional Railway Manager of Alipurduar Devendra Singh and senior NFR officials accompanied Shrivastava during the inspection.
As part of the visit, the general manager conducted a window trailing inspection from New Bongaigaon to Alipurduar Junction. He examined the condition of railway tracks, bridges, overhead electrical installations and other railway assets along the section to assess their upkeep and identify maintenance requirements.
At Alipurduar Junction, Shrivastava visited the station yard, Carriage and Wagon Depot and Multidisciplinary Zonal Training School.
He inaugurated a newly constructed pit line, a Bio-Toilet Laboratory and a Carriage and Wagon Model-cum-Staff Training Room. The facilities are expected to strengthen coach inspection, support the effective maintenance of bio-toilet systems and enhance practical training for railway staff.
The improvements are aimed at enhancing rolling stock reliability, cleanliness and passenger comfort.
The general manager also inaugurated an Automatic Block Signalling Model Room, an IP Exchange and an AI-enabled Smart Learning Centre. These facilities are expected to improve staff understanding of signalling systems, strengthen communication infrastructure and support technology-based learning.
He also laid the foundation stone for a Multidisciplinary Sports Complex at Alipurduar Junction. The proposed complex will promote physical fitness, encourage sports participation and nurture sporting talent among railway employees, while fostering teamwork and discipline.
The initiatives underscore NFR's commitment to modernising infrastructure and investing in its workforce to provide safer, more efficient and passenger-focused railway services.
