Maligaon, April 3 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway today informed that its New Bongaigaon (NBQ) workshop has successfully completed several key initiatives in March, strengthening its commitment to efficiency, quality, and modernisation in railway operations.

The workshop has achieved 100% compliance with all modifications recommended by the Railway Board, RDSO, and NFR HQ, maintaining thorough records for enhanced efficiency and future reference, maintained a press release from the NFR CPRO.

Among others, the old Carriage Lifting Shop was vacated and transferred to the Engineering Department for flooring work after relocating ICF coaches to the newly established LHB Corrosion Repair Shop, it said.

Shower testing of covered wagons also started identifying roof leaks, improving the reliability and durability of rolling stock, it added.

Another notable step towards enhancing both aesthetics and longevity, vinyl wrapping was applied to an LHB 2-Tier AC coach as an alternative to conventional painting, the release said.

A tender process is in progress to vinyl-wrap 125 more coaches within the next two months, it added.

Further, as part of coaching activities, a total of 77 coaches underwent successful Periodical Overhauling (POH) across different categories, the release said.

The workshop also rolled out 145 wagons in March 2025 and upgraded three wagons to the Twin Pipe Air Brake system, bringing the cumulative total for 2024-25 to 253.

To reduce rolling stock detention, the NBQ workshop supplied 279 pairs of wheelsets to various divisions, including 118 for BCN, 100 for LHB, 39 for ICF, 18 for DSL, and 4 for SPL ICF, the release informed.

Further, scrap disposal efforts played a crucial role in resource optimisation, with approximately 634.218 MT of ferrous scrap and 29.405 MT of non-ferrous scrap deposited in stores, it added.
