Maligaon, September 9 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) registered a 14.1% increase in freight loading during August 2025 compared to the same month last year.
According to an official release, the zone successfully loaded 0.916 million tonnes (MT) of freight in August compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year reflecting a steady rise in economic activity in the region.
Several commodities saw significant growth in freight movement in August 2025, it noted. Cement loading increased by 258.8%, coal by 120%, fertilizer by 68.8%, containers by 23.1%, and petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) by 18.6%. Dolomite loading grew by 5%, while stone chips recorded a rise of 168.4% compared to last year.
The consistent growth in freight loading not only reflects the rising economic activity in the region but also contributed significantly to NFR’s revenue, it added.
The NFR further assured its commitment committed to technical advancements aimed at enhancing service reliability and efficiency, ensuring sustained growth in freight transportation.
Earlier, the NFR informed that it registered an 8.69% growth in freight unloading in August 2025 compared to the same month last year. A total of 1113 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded in the region in August.
