NFR registers steady growth in freight loading

MALIGAON, DECEMBER 15 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to make significant progress in freight loading, with a notable increase in the movement of essential commodities. In November 2024, the railway recorded a total of 0.702 million tonnes of freight, marking a steady rise in its operations.

According to a press statement issued by the NFR, the month of November saw exceptional growth in the loading of several key commodities compared to the same period last year. Cement loading surged by an impressive 280%, while container loading rose by 9.1%. In addition, the loading of miscellaneous items saw a staggering 306.7% increase during the same period, reflecting a robust upward trend in NFR's freight operations.

This progress is attributed to the fast-paced completion of infrastructure projects, including the doubling and electrification of important railway sections. These developments have significantly improved the efficiency and capacity of freight movement, facilitating increased inward and outward traffic.

The continued rise in freight loading not only highlights the growing economic activity in the region but also strengthens NFR's contribution to regional development. The enhanced freight operations have led to a notable increase in revenue for the railway, underscoring the vital role of transportation in supporting economic growth in the Northeast.

With this steady growth in freight traffic, NFR is set to play an even more significant role in the economic landscape of the region, ensuring the timely delivery of essential goods and supporting the ongoing development of the area, the press statement read.
