Maligaon, July 16 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is poised to receive three newly redeveloped stations, Majbat in Assam, and Jalpaiguri Road and Haldibari in West Bengal which will be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17 as part of a nationwide rollout of 75 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Majbat station, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 10.19 crore, becomes the second railway station in Assam after Haibargaon to be inaugurated under the scheme, out of the 50 stations identified in the state for redevelopment, while Jalpaiguri Road and Haldibari stations in West Bengal have been developed at project costs of around Rs 34.80 crore and Rs 26 crore, respectively.
The three stations fall under the NFR’s operational jurisdiction, and their inauguration marks a significant milestone for the zone, which serves the northeastern states and parts of West Bengal, as it leads the region's participation in one of Indian Railways' most ambitious station redevelopment initiatives.
According to NFR officials, the redevelopment focuses on technological and architectural upgradation, with the Prime Minister’s virtual inauguration underscoring the government's emphasis on transforming grassroots rail infrastructure and bridging regional connectivity gaps in the Northeast and its neighbouring areas.
The event assumes special significance as it reflects the Centre's push to bring northeastern India into the fold of rapid national development through modern connectivity, with NFR playing a pivotal role in executing the projects, the officials added.
“These redeveloped stations symbolise not only infrastructure upliftment but also the government's intent to integrate the region with the national growth story,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR.
