
Maligaon, October 19 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction and increasing freight revenue during the month of September 2025. These measures are focused on strengthening logistics efficiency, ensuring smooth cargo movement, and supporting the growth of regional agricultural and industrial supply chains.
As part of these efforts, Molvom station in Nagaland and Sairang station in Mizoram under the Lumding Division have been opened for handling outward and inward movement of all goods traffic, effective from September 2 and September 12 respectively. Additionally, Sairang station has also been opened for outward and inward automobile traffic from September 19.
Further, Baihata station under the Rangiya Division has been opened for handling inward iron and steel consignments from September 26, 2025. This strategic move is expected to cater to the growing logistics demands of the region.
Under its Business Development Unit (BDU) initiative, NFR achieved significant freight movement during September 2025. A total of 21 wagons of rice were loaded from New Coochbehar station under the Alipurduar Division to Jirania in the Lumding Division.
The Lumding Division also booked 1,474 wagons of stone chips from various new locations. This included 262 wagons from Shokhuvi to Jirania and Lumding; 62 wagons from Salchapra to Bairabi; 588 wagons from Ditokcherra to Jirania, Belonia and Bihara; 245 wagons from Bihara to Jirania and Belonia; 147 wagons from Panchgram to Udaipur, Jirania and Belonia; and 170 wagons from Bairabi to Lalabazar and Sairang.
Northeast Frontier Railway continues to focus on improving its freight services and customer interface while contributing significantly to the logistics and supply chain ecosystem of the region.
