Dimapur/Maligaon, June 16 (MExN): During the month of May 2024, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) registered a freight loading capacity of 1.034 million tonnes of various commodities. This is an increase of 16.83% in comparison to May of last year.
The railway authority’s Chief PRO stated that in May food grain loading has increased by 57.7%, cement increased by 122.2%. POL loading has increased by 69.4% while container loading increased by 33.3%. Loading of miscellaneous commodities like timber & ballast also registered an increased by 66.7% and 38.8% respectively when compared to the corresponding period of last financial year.
During April and May this year, loading of cement increased by 14%, food grain by 41.5%, fertilizer by 29.2%, POL by 56.3% and container by 33.3%.
“Eventually, the increase in freight loading year after year signifies the growing economic activities of the region,” the PRO reported, leading to increase in goods revenue.
Announcement of new train services between Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to operate a bi-weekly special train between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri through the Chapar, Bilasipara, Gauripur, Golakganj, Tufanganj route. The train bearing no.05698/05697 will operate from June 18 till January 1, 2025 in both directions. This is to provide easy access for people of West Assam and North Bengal to Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, a press release from NFR Chief PRO said.
Departure from Guwahatiat will be at 11:55 PM from 1 June 18 till December 31 on every Tuesday and Thursday to reach New Jalpaiguri at 08:15 AM on the next day. In the return direction, train no. 05697 will depart from New Jalpaiguri at 11:15 AM from June 19 till January 1, 2025 on every Wednesday and Friday to reach Guwahati at 7:30 PM on the same day.
The special train will consist of AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, sleeper class & general seating coaches. During its journey, the train will have stoppages at Kamakhya, Dudhnai, Goalpara town, Abhayapuri, Chapar, Bilasipara, Gauripur, Golakganj, Tufanganj, New Coochbehar, Mathabhanga, New Changrabandha, Jalpaiguri Road and Rani Nagar Jalpaiguri stations.
