DIMAPUR, JUNE 25 (MExN): ‘NH-36’, a play presented by the group “Circle of Trust” and directed by Bendangtemsu Walling, a student of National School of Drama, New Delhi, was well received by the audience at IMC Hall, Dimapur, on Saturday night.
The play, which evolved from a workshop earlier conducted by Dimapur Ao Baptist Church Ministry, takes one to the world where dreams and reality meet halfway, where the hidden self of the actors are exposed in subtle and sometime hilarious manner.
The play is also about looking or searching the other side of man’s busy and hectic life, an escape from the harsh reality that surrounds everyday life.
At the start of the play, the characters all board a bus en-route to Shillong. All of a sudden, the bus develops some mechanical or other problems –its starts veering high speed followed by an explosion.
After the explosion, each of the characters enters his own dream world and they live out their dreams and fantasy, albeit fleeting. One character Yanger dreams of his birthday bash and a magic bottle given by his grandmother. In the party, Yanger and his actor friends spin the magic bottle and whoever the bottle points to, the others also enter the dream of that actor.
In the last scene, another character Aien dream of visiting the land of death to meet her father. She meets Meren in her dream. Meren then goes to fulfill his desires, that of marrying billionaire Bill Gates daughter, with the help of Aien.
Earlier, NEZCC director, Som Kamei, the guest of honour of the occasion, encouraged Nagas and the northeastern people to popularize the rich folk drama and culture of the region.
