NIPF welcomes ILP implementation

DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum (NIPF) has extended strong support to the state government’s decision to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts.

In a statement issued on Friday, the NIPF said the move is in the interest of safeguarding the rights and identity of the indigenous people of Nagaland. It warned that without timely and effective preventive measures, the local population could face marginalisation in their own land.

Citing examples from other states, the forum said that inaction by some state governments has led to the indigenous people becoming "second-class citizens."

The NIPF reiterated its longstanding commitment to the cause and expressed solidarity with the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and other civil society organisations advocating for the protection of indigenous rights.
