Niuland, July 1 (MExN): The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting for Niuland district on Wednesday explored opportunities to strengthen dairy farming, with Lok Sabha MP and DISHA Chairperson Supongmeren Jamir describing the sector as having significant market potential and calling for a fresh assessment of its prospects.
To this end, Jamir urged the concerned department to re-examine the potential for expanding dairy farming in Niuland.
Meanwhile, the meeting, held at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall, reviewed the implementation of various government schemes and development projects in the district. The purpose of the DISHA committee is to assess the achievements and challenges of departments in implementing various schemes and projects, Jamir said, encouraging members to raise issues and concerns without hesitation.
The Departments of Agriculture, Water Resources, Veterinary and Labour presented reports on their activities and programmes in the district.
Following the Agriculture Department's presentation, the DISHA Chairperson proposed the establishment of a cold storage facility to support agricultural produce and asked the district administration to prepare a clear roadmap.
He also held detailed discussions with officials from the Water Resources, Agriculture, Veterinary and Labour departments on sector-specific issues. On the issue of poor mobile and communication connectivity in the district, Jamir assured the meeting that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities, the State DIPR reported.
