Non-locals killed in Imphal; security stepped up

Imphal | September 18 : In a renewed attack on the non-locals, two persons hailing from Bihar have been shot dead in Imphal in the last 24 hours. With these latest incidents, altogether 79 non-locals have been shot dead in the last one decade. Maximum numbers of non-locals were killed in the year 2009. Altogether 30 non-locals were shot dead in that year.
On September 17, a non-local identified as one Upendra Mukhira (25) hailing from Sitamari district of Bihar was shot dead by unknown gunmen from his rented house at Nagamapal in Imphal West district. He worked as a mason. In a similar attack, another non-local identified as one Kamlesh Das (23) s/o Babulal hailing from Sangkerpur of Bihar was shot dead by unidentified armed persons from his rented house at Uripok, also in Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, following the renewed attacks on the non-locals, the state home department has taken up stringent measures to thwart the development. Non-locals residing in the vulnerable places in and around Imphal have been herded to Dharamsala area in the heart of Imphal by the police as a pre-emptive measure. These two incidents were the first in the year 2011 regarding the attacks on the non-locals. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the killings.
