Dimapur, June 28 (MExN): More allegations of corruption, this time related to construction, have surfaced from Phek. The Phek Area Public Organization today demanded intervention of the Nagaland government in matter associated with the construction of the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex at Phek town that started in the year 2008. The organization made the allegations in a letter, addressed to the chief minister of Nagaland, a copy of which was received here today. The charges are that funds are being taken in advance and cash is being withdrawn although the complex is not even half-complete.
In spite of ‘many development works’, the Phek Area Public Organization (PAPO) said, is compelled to issues this appeal for your intervention as we would be failing on our part if the good image of your government is tarnished by some few vested individuals. The construction works of the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex at Phek headquarter, which began in 2008 has come to a grinding halt, the letter said.
The PAPO stated – “The complex which should be complete by now as per the terms and condition of the agreement is far from completion. The PAPO is surprised to learn that there is rampant corruption by means of advance payment/withdrawals of cash against the construction of the complex, although the complex is not even half-complete.”
The PAPO is also convinced that the complex was awarded to the people of Phek district through “your investiture on first preference basis.” Regrettably, the organization stated, the contractor has ‘miserably failed to fulfill the wishes and desire of the public thereby tarnishing the good reputation of your government.’
The organization has demanded that the chief minister’s office intervene into the matter ‘so that the desire of the general public is fulfilled.’ Zashevoyi Lohe, president and Punesa Rhakho, general secretary appended the letter.
