Joining the rest of the Congress party in India, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) also registered protest against the credibility of the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar after allegation of irregularities over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral roll and demanded that the later should step down from his present position on moral grounds.
Addressing a press conference here today at Congress Bhavan, NPCC Working President C Apok Jamir said that as per the report, out of the three commissioners in the ECI, the other two have not been consulted on 14 occasions.
Kumar has to take consultation with the other two commissioners, which he hasn't done, Jamir said adding “Therefore, we are of the firm view that everything has been done arbitrarily.”
It has not been done in the interest of the people but done in the interest of the party “whom he is serving,” he said.
“I think that it is not only the demand of the Congress Party, but all the right-thinking leaderships in the country are demanding that he should step down, because this has infringed upon the political and democratic process of the country,” Jamir said.
“It is no more a political issue now. It is now a criminal case which has to be addressed,” he said, terming the activities of Kumar as violation of the democratic rights.
Accuses NPF of poaching town, municipal councilors
NPCC president and MP Lok Sabha S Supongmeren Jamir accused the NPF led government of poaching even the town and the municipal councilors.
He said that the NPF led government was not allowing even the grassroots elected members to serve the people in a peaceful way, adding that they are trying to hijack all the liberty and the rights and depriving the rights of those citizens of the voters.
“It is also very unfortunate for those elected members who have joined the NPF. They have forgotten about the mandate which was given to them by the voters,” he said.
And just because of some few money and the commitment of some projects, they have to sacrifice all their principles and their commitments, which was made during the elections to the voters, Jamir said.
If that kind of trend continues, then we cannot expect any good governance in our state, he said.
Congress stands on Naga political issue
On Naga Political issue, the MP said that Congress stand for implementation of the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, adding that it should be immediately implemented with the inclusiveness of all parties.
Stating that the former interlocutor on Naga talks, RN Ravi, has already declared that negotiation has already over, he said “Now, only the implementation part is required. So, Congress wants that it should be immediately implemented.”
On being asked the view of the Congress party on Dr. S.C. Jamir’s recent meeting with RSS chief, the NPCC president said “Actually, that meeting of the RSS chief, is only his personal capacity and not on the capacity of the party.”
Road projects
Highlighting his spot verification to the road projects from Patkai Bridge to Kohima and Phesama landslide area on September 24, Jamir said that he will constantly monitor for proper execution of the works as commitment made by the NHIDCL officials during his visit.
From this year onwards, he cautioned that that there should be no more mistake from the NHIDCL and see that those contractors who are involved in the work, “should be seriously execute the work.”
Jamir said that if they fail to do so, he will report to the authorities for necessary actions.
“We can expect that by December, we can have some visible good roads,” he said.
