Kohima, May 27 (MExN): The Central Women Wing of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) held a consultative meeting at the party’s Central Headquarters in Kohima on May 26, during which members deliberated on strengthening the functioning of the wing and adopted a six-point resolution.
According to a press release issued by Sapralu Nyekha, General Secretary (In-charge of Press & Media), NPF Central Women Wing, the meeting resolved to work cohesively for the healthy growth and progress of the party.
The house reaffirmed its support to Chief Minister and NPF President Dr Neiphiu Rio, stating that under his leadership, women were provided greater space in governance, including the successful implementation of 33% reservation for women in Urban Local Body elections, which resulted in the election of hundreds of women councillors across the state.
The wing also expressed appreciation to the party leadership led by Dr Rio and Abu Metha for resolving the recent political crisis within the Dimapur Municipal Council, which led to reconciliation among NPF councillors and withdrawal of the no-confidence motion.
The meeting further congratulated Dr Rio, Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon and party leaders on the Election Commission of India’s recognition of the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the NPF on May 4, 2026.
As part of its future initiatives, the Central Women Wing announced plans to launch a district-wide campaign titled “Her Vote, Her Voice” from September to November 2026 to encourage enrolment of young women voters.
The wing also resolved to organise workshops and seminars to promote women in leadership roles and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening party principles, unity and peace.
