Dimapur, July 17 (MExN): The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 16 pondered whether the government is truly capable of handling state of affairs as the law and order situation in the state continues to worsen by the day. The BJP reminded of the “fear psychosis” of the regionalists and therefore ineffective policy that has affected the lives of the people.
‘Where are the government and the law agencies? Is this the way to run the government?'
The situation is reflected by the unabated extortion, threats, rape, killings and even bomb explosions and threat to the lives of the innocent public, the Nagaland BJP said in a statement. ‘The bigger question is how a responsible government is unable to handle the state’s affairs and why it fails to deliver justice to its people?’ the BJP queried in the statement appended by general secretary Yambos Murry. ‘The state’s law and order situation is going down sharply and is worsening day by day. There is no sign of peace. What makes the government unnoticed the extortions, bomb blasts, rapes, killings, kidnappings and threats on innocent lives?” the BJP wondered.
‘Where are the government and the law agencies? Is this the way to run the government? The NPF is indulging in undue political advantages which have created a division within the Naga society it sees in the other states,’ the BJP stated.
The Nagaland BJP leaders attended the central party’s meeting on July 7-8 in Delhi and submitted reports on the situation in Nagaland, the BJP unit informed. The reasons the BJP attributed to the failure of the state government in strongly tackling the crimes is “fear psychosis” which according to the BJP, resulted in ineffective policy and effecting the lives of common citizens.
The extension of the Disturbed Area Act is “another major setback,” the unit said. The UPA at the center and the NPF in Nagaland are in confusion, the unit said. ‘If the state government played its role at the right time, such draconian law could have been prevented. The extension may hamper the peace process; no respectable solution is possible at gunpoint and no constructive dialogue can be held under threat from the center,” the unit explained. The BJP also criticized the NPF for launching its units in other states when the states are fighting for survival with their own issues to handle.
Another issue the BJP broached was the state of essential commodities in Nagaland, which according to the BJP, is in ‘pathetic condition’. “BJP is extremely worried at the role of the minister for Food and Civil Supplies,” the party explained. The party has also demanded government drive against officials involved in black marketing and corruption.
