NRP Day observed in Nagaland

Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): The National Neonatology Forum (NNF) India observed NRP Day on May 10 as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening newborn survival through large-scale hands-on skill training programmes across the country.

According to a press release, the initiative is being conducted under the leadership of Lallan Kumar Bharti, President of NNF India, with the objective of ensuring timely and effective resuscitation support for newborns at birth.

The release stated that newborn mortality continues to remain a major public health challenge in India, with a significant proportion of neonatal deaths linked to the inability of babies to establish breathing at birth. It noted that the first few minutes after birth are critical and that timely intervention by trained healthcare providers can help prevent avoidable deaths.

As part of the nationwide initiative, 998 training courses are being conducted across India with nearly 20,000 healthcare providers participating. The programme covers metropolitan cities as well as rural and remote regions.

In Nagaland, the training initiative was conducted at Zion Hospital in Dimapur, where 20 participants underwent hands-on neonatal resuscitation training. The training session was attended by Apong, Temjenpokba and Akumtoshi.

The course was coordinated by Dr Akumtoshi. The release stated that the trainings were conducted free of cost and included healthcare workers from both government and private sectors to ensure wider reach and uniform strengthening of newborn care practices.

NNF India also provided support for planning, coordination, standardisation and execution of the trainings across all centres, the release added.
