Kohima, July 27 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather outlook predicting thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts from July 28 to 31. It has also urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid open areas, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying zones.
According to the advisory issued by the NSDMA, on July 28, most districts are likely to experience localized thunderstorms with lightning and light rain at scattered locations, while moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto, with Mokokchung and Tseminyu likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall at most places.
Weather activity is expected to intensify on July 29, with Kohima likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, while most other districts are expected to receive localized thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, and Mon, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu and Zunheboto may receive rainfall at most places.
On July 30, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall are expected over several districts, with Tuensang likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, while rainfall activity over many other districts is expected to be comparatively lighter, with only a few places receiving rain. Weather conditions are expected to improve across many districts on July 31, with light to moderate rainfall at a few places; however, isolated thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall may still occur over Meluri, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto, while Kiphire, Noklak and Shamator have no active weather warnings for the day.
The NSDMA has advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, exercise caution while travelling, and remain alert if living in landslide-prone or low-lying areas.
